What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure intended to remove excess fat from the body. During liposuction, subcutaneous fat is removed by aspiration through suction probes passed under the skin via small incisions. These incisions are carefully placed to reduce the appearance of scarring, which will fade over time.
Individuals who desire liposuction should have already lost weight but still have remaining areas of fat that cannot be lost with further diet or exercise. This procedure is not meant to aid in weight loss, as it only targets specific areas for fat removal. Liposuction is suitable in cases where there is minimal skin sag or excess skin. It is appropriate for patients who would like to modify their body shape or to improve their body contour. Liposuction does not remove cellulite or stretch marks.

FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS
FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS
How should I prepare for the surgery?
Prior to the surgery, you may need to stop taking blood thinning medication such as aspirin and ibuprofen, or other supplements. Do inform our surgeon if you are currently on such medication. Smoking and other forms of nicotine should also be avoided 4-6 weeks before surgery, as this can hinder the healing process. As you will be under general anaesthesia, you should also fast from food and liquids 6 hours before the procedure.
Are there any side effects associated with the surgery?
As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with tummy tuck surgery. These include bleeding, infection and poor wound healing in the initial recovery period. Our surgeon will take all necessary precautions to reduce the risk of these complications. Some swelling and bruising are expected but should heal with time. You can also minimize adverse reactions by following post-operative instructions and attending follow-up appointments regularly.
Will this surgery leave scarring?
As an incision will be made to insert the suction probe, there will be a small scar present on the body. However, this scar will be well hidden, and our surgeon will take special care to place incisions in inconspicuous areas of the body. We will also advise you on how to take care of the wound for proper healing, and advise on scar management later.
How long does recovery take?
In the first few days after surgery, swelling and bruising is expected, as well as some drainage of fluid from the surgical site. Strenuous activities should be avoided, and compression garments must be worn to aid in the healing process. After a month, most swelling should subside, and you can gradually return to more strenuous activities such as exercise.
What is needed for post-surgical care?
Compression garments should be worn to aid in tightening the skin and to manage swelling. Medication will be provided by the clinic to help you manage any pain and swelling that may arise after the procedure.
Can I file an insurance claim for this procedure?
Liposuction is usually performed for cosmetic reasons. However, if the liposuction is done for medical reasons, our clinic will be able to assist you with direct insurance e-filing and Medisave claims.
