Breast Implant & Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure carried out to enhance and enlarge the breasts. Augmentation mammaplasty can be done by individuals who want to increase their breast size, or to restore breast volume and shape after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.

Enhancing the breast with an increase in size can allow women to have a more prominent cleavage, look better in the clothes, as well as improve self-confidence.

Breast augmentation is usually performed using breasts implants. In some suitable patients, breast augmentation with fat grafting may also be possible. It is considered a natural alternative to breast implants. Fat grafting is more suitable for those looking for more minor breast enhancements, which may involve correcting the breasts’ shape and symmetry.

Breast augmentation with implants can be performed in combination with a breast lift in women who have very ptotic breasts. Augmentation mammoplasty can also be performed as part of corrective surgery for women who have congenital chest wall defects, or women who have asymmetrical breasts.

This procedure is usually performed a day surgery procedure under general anaesthesia. You will be able to return home on the same day and return to work within a week. There may be some discomfort, tightness and discomfort that will go away after the initial period.

During the consultation, our plastic surgeon will understand the needs and expectations of each individual patient before going through the surgical options, and different breast implants as well as covering the post-surgery expectations.

Breast Lift Surgery (Mastopexy)

Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure to restore youthful and uplifted appearance of breasts that have sagged or lost their shape.

Breast lift can be performed alone, with replacement of breast volume (breast augmentation) or reduction of volume (reduction mastopexy). The nipple and areolar are resited at the desired position. A breast implant or fat graft can be placed to add volume. Sometimes, some breast tissue is excised to allow the breast tissues to be rearranged in a way to create the “lift”.

This surgery is usually performed under general anaesthesia. There is a down time of 2 weeks for wound healing. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. A well-fitting support bra should be worn after surgery.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Some women desire breast reduction if they find that they have heavy breasts that may sometimes interfere with sporting activities, or give them neck and shoulder pain over time. The weight also causes the breasts to sag, leading to droopy breasts over time. Breast reduction can also improve the shape and reduce breast ptosis.

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure to reduce the breast volume. During surgery, fat and excess skin is also excised. The nipple and areolar are resited and the remaining breast tissue rearranged to create a “lifted” appearance.

This is done under general anaesthesia and with hospital stay. Post-operative surgical drains and a well-fitting support bra are required. A downtime of 2 weeks is expected for wound healing, though you can return to work after 1-2 weeks. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks.
